THINGS WE'RE TALKING ABOUT

Leo and his Oscar

LEADS-ing the way
Want to be the host/hostess with the most, mostest? LEADS is now accepting applications for spring session leaders! Help other young adults discover all of the awesome in Greater Boston’s Jewish community during eight super comfy and super social sessions. You and your gang will gather at your home, enjoy small group discussions, and then hit up the town with other LEADS groups.

THINGS IN THE CITY

JewGooders Banner

It’s ba-aack
That’s right, the first Jewgooders event was such a smashing success (over 80 people attended!) that we’re doing it all over again! Round 2 of the greatest event series ever kicks off March 10 at Central Wharf Co. Enjoy a night out on the town full of fun, friendship and delicious beverages!

MassChallenge goes Israeli!

The big sorry
Scandals are often followed by the public apology—but then what? And what does it mean? On March 16, join Dr. Erica Brown for The Genesis Forum’s latest session, where you’ll explore the modern public apology, ancient sources on the nature of forgiveness, and more.

On the trail
Don't miss israel360's event on March 22, featuring guest speaker Udi Goren—who just finished a 2.5-month journey along the Israeli National Trail. Oh, and that trail just happens to be 700 miles long, and world-renowned as one of the world's best and toughest long-distance hikes.

New section alert! We're now bringing awesome events and happenings that we fund, from all around the community, straight to your inbox. Enjoy!

I'm ready GOT gif

Purim is coming
Can’t wait for Game of Thrones to return? Wish you could celebrate Purim in rockin’ medieval style? Yearning to combine the two into an evening of amazingness? Well, look no further! Chai Center’s taking Purim to the next level with their Thrones of Purim party on March 23, where sword swallowers, golden goblet cocktails, and a live DJ are just the beginning.

Make some noise
On March 19, liven it up with The Workmen’s Circle annual Gragger Event! (In case you need a refresher, a gragger is a Jewish noisemaker traditionally used to lift up our voices in the name of liberation and justice—we’ll take a handful!)

Dubbed a “raucous, radical extravaganza,” the event welcomes you to break out your best costumes, dance the night away with DJ Lady Spindrift, and celebrate your favorite Biblical feminists!

Music to our ears
The Jewish Arts Collaborative has more fun events than you can shake a stick at—what's up next on the docket?
  • Before heading out to SXSW, A-Wa plays the Somerville Armory! What’s an A-Wa? It’s three music-loving Yemenite sisters + one boundary-breaking producer, Balkan Beat Box’s Tomer Yosef. (They’re one of NPR’s Favorites of 2016!)
  • Yair Dalal—composer, oudist, violinist and singer—takes center stage at Temple Beth Zion in Brookline with his signature New Middle Eastern music sounds.

Chai honorees with Gideon and Barry

Pic of the month
18 honorees + 1 Gideon Raff + 1 Barry Shrage + 1 Incredible night = So. Much. Great. Okay, addition isn’t our writer’s strong point, but the real point is how great this photo of all our Chai rollers is!

(Not all of our amazing honorees could jump into the picture--but have no fear, we have so many other great shots! Check them all out now.)

THINGS THAT ARE JEWISH

Hamentashen are delicious
Now that the obvious has been stated, it’s time to celebrate Purim! This carnival-filled holiday—which falls on March 24—celebrates the saving of the Jewish people from Haman’s plot to destroy them. Get ready to clack graggers, watch a spiel (aka play), and feast long into the night.

(But remember: the holiday officially kicks off with the Fast of Esther, which lasts from dawn until dusk on Purim Eve. Just think of all those hamentashen waiting for you when it’s over! No, seriously, think about them.)

Before & after
Don’t forget—Daylight Savings is FINALLY BACK! That’s right, the days get longer, and the candlelighting times get later:

Before:
  • March 4 | 5:20 p.m.
  • March 11 | 5:29 p.m.
After:
  • March 18 | 6:37 p.m.
  • March 25 | 6:45 p.m.
