May News

POM co-chairs and Marlee MatlinIt’s been a busy spring for Women’s Philanthropy — and we’re having a blast!

To kick off April, we hosted our Metrowest Spring Event: A Fresh Look at Passover, where we explored new Seder traditions and some tasty Passover wines and desserts. Thank you to our Co-chairs, Rachel Heckler, Jill Karp, and Robin Wolk, for hosting a fantastic evening that drew more than 80 women to Temple Shir Tikva in Wayland.

On April 24, more than 400 women joined us for our Annual Pomegranate Society & Friends Event at The Westin Waltham, featuring Academy Award winner Marlee Matlin. Thanks to our incredible Co-chairs — Robin Neiterman, Jessica Poscover, and Alexandra Simes, who are featured as this month’s “Wonder Women” — and our 22 corporate sponsors, it was truly an unforgettable and empowering night!

And on May 3, members of our Young Women’s Philanthropy group spent the evening at Mayyim Hayyim in Newton celebrating Jewish learning and spiritual discovery. Kudos to Young Women’s Philanthropy Co-chairs Sasha Meyerson, Corinne Morahan, and Kara Westerling for an inspiring evening!

As we head into summer, there’s still plenty to look forward to. Stay tuned for details about summer events and our Women’s Philanthropy Annual Kickoff in September.

CLAFITwo faiths. One goal.

CJP’s longstanding commitment to caring for the vulnerable has led us to establish the CJP Legal Aid Fund for Immigrants in partnership with Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Boston — a dedicated faith-based organization working to build a more just and compassionate society. CJP is proud to partner with Catholic Charities to take action against discrimination and fear.

Catholic Charities currently provides legal assistance for an estimated 1,000 people annually; this year, the need could easily quadruple. With your support, we will greatly expand direct legal assistance to immigrants, including unaccompanied children and women who are victims of abuse and domestic violence, in this challenging climate.

Together, we can double the number of clients Catholic Charities can serve this year — we hope you’ll help us provide this urgently needed support.

Boston Media RoomIntroducing the Boston Media Room

CJP’s Strategic Israel Engagement (SIE), the Israeli American Council of Boston, and IDC Herzliya have teamed up to create the Boston Media Room, a rapid-response, real-time project that brings together student ambassadors and adult mentors to take a stand for Israel online. Its engaging videos, sharable graphics, and timely content are reaching thousands of people around the world through Facebook and Act.IL, a mobile app available on iOS and Android.

While relatively new, the Boston Media Room has already created amazing videos like this one. More importantly, it has given the community a powerful new pro-Israel voice.

“It is an amazing opportunity,” said Maya, a high school Boston Media Room ambassador. “At one point, I felt a little helpless. Now that I’ve joined this project, where I can use my journalism skills and knowledge of Israel to make a difference, I feel like I’ve really found my place.”

To support the CJP Annual Campaign and this important Strategic Israel Engagement work, you can give securely online, or contact Becca at or 617-457-8862 to discuss how you’d like to make an impact this year.
