THINGS WE'RE TALKING ABOUT
Get in on all the (Boston young adult) Jewishness
Awesome starts here. Join LEADS, a social, nine-session intro to Combined Jewish Philanthropies (CJP) and all the good our Greater Boston Jewish community has to offer. Hang with other young adults, meet some of Boston's committed young leaders, discuss Jewish culture and values, and meet other LEADS groups. You can register here. The cost is $36, with $18 serving as a gift to CJP's Annual Campaign, and the other $18 as a participation fee. Sessions begin on Wednesday, December 4. If you have any questions, email Nicolette.
Good eats and good company
Sign up for Wine & Dine in the Seaport, a shared community initiative with the Leifer Family Foundation, on Friday, December 6, where you can meet hundreds of other young Jews. Join one of our two services, indulge in kosher wines from around the world, and come together for a delicious dinner. We hope to see you there! Questions? Email Caleb.
THINGS WE'RE SERIOUS ABOUT
We’ve got your back
We are excited to announce we are now accepting applications for Round 1 of CJP’s Young Adult Community Grants! This is an opportunity for young adults in Greater Boston to receive funding for their programs designed to enhance Jewish life. Applicants must represent a 501c(3) organization or have a fiscal sponsor. We will have two rounds — one with decisions in December and one with decisions in April. As always, we are here to help you along the way — please feel free to reach out to Adam with any questions or for advice.
THINGS IN THE CITY
So, you’re a healthcare professional?
We’ve got something just for you. Set your alarms a little early and join colleagues and friends for CJP's Health Professions Annual Breakfast and Healthcare Innovations Network Pre-reception on Sunday, November 17, at the Royal Sonesta in Cambridge. Hear from guest speaker Sophie Kornowski, Pharm.D., MBA, Senior Partner, Gurnet Point Capital, at the pre-reception and listen to keynote speaker Adam M. Koppel, M.D., Ph.D., a leader in the biotech industry, at the breakfast. Email Laura if you have questions.
One-part brewing lesson, one-part social bonanza — join israel360 and become a beer brewer for the night on Tuesday, November 19 at Hopsters Brewing Company in the Seaport. Dani and Itzik Shapiro will introduce us to Israel’s beer renaissance as we roll up our sleeves, break out the ingredients, and toast to new friends. Questions? Email Matty!
Chai again, we’re back
Save the date for Chai in the Hub on Saturday, February 8, 2020 at the Royal Sonesta in Cambridge. We’ll celebrate our Chai in the Hub honorees, hear from an awesome speaker (who we’re keeping a surprise — for now!), and dance the night away. Mark your calendar and email Nicolette with any questions!
THINGS WE SUPPORT
Each year, CJP helps support programs and organizations throughout our community. Here are some of this month’s events we proudly support.
“I love logistics!” said no one.
In the middle of planning a b’nai mitzvah or wedding? Don’t miss the 21st Annual Bar Mitzvah and Wedding Fall Show on Sunday, November 3 in Natick to meet dozens of vendors and leave with everything figured out for that special day.
Whisky and hummus — what more do you need?
Come to Vilna Shul’s Downtown Social Club Whisky Tasting on Thursday, November 7 in Boston. Join Joseph Hyman, a leading authority in the field, to learn the history of the alcohol, the different types of whiskies, the creation process, and how to identify a good spirit. Then, head to Vilna Shul again on Wednesday, November 13 for a hummus-making workshop with Tahaza Kitchen and Havurah on the Hill to make new friends and learn about the classic spread.
Choose your adventure
Join Congregation Mishkan Tefila in Brookline for Lounge Nights — vibrant, inspiring, and engaging evenings that offer a variety of things to do. Make art, listen to music, participate in a scotch tasting, and hear from a diverse array of dynamic speakers. Register now for the next gathering on Wednesday, November 20!
THINGS WE LOVE
Finding courage in 5780
What are some things you didn’t do this past year, but wanted to? How will you go out of your comfort zone in the upcoming year? JewishBoston’s Ashley Jacobs asks these questions of herself and eight friends in a reflective, inspiring, and honest article.
THINGS THAT ARE JEWISH
Last month was a whirlwind, and it’s time to settle into cozy sweaters and darker days as we fall back an hour on Sunday, November 3.
Here’s when to light your Shabbat candles this month:
